What is a landmark?

  • A landmark is an interesting or an important place.
  • It can be an object, structure or place that is easy to see and recognise.
  • It can be natural or man-made
  • A prominent identifying feature of a landscape.
  • A fixed marker, such as a concrete block, that indicates a boundary line.
  • An event marking an important stage of development or a turning point in history.
  • A building or site with historical significance, especially one marked for preservation by a municipal or national government.

Each landmark has a set of

1.Quiz slides.

2.Information fact sheets.

3.What did you learn feedback sheets.

4.Create a flap book activity and instructions on how to create their books. Examples are included for demonstration purposes

5.Optional variations presentations are included at the end of this resource.

6.Maps of Australia- blank and labelled.

7.Maps of each state or territory.

  • This resource can be used in a multitude of ways depending on the teaching criteria.
  • Students could be divided into partner groups to work on one of the 20 landmark sections included in the resource.
  • Students could be presented with the different landmarks once viewed as a class, perhaps using the QUIZ game as a way of testing prior learning. Further rigorous and in-depth study can be then initiated by the teacher so that the students investigate further the Australian Landmark of their choice.
  • The QUIZ, BINGO or PUZZLE games included could be used as extension activities, exit tasks or part of group rotations.
